Proponents of cyclic investing follow the bulls and the big money. it's true there is a certain pattern that the market leaders follow during various phases of the economic cycle. These people are fund managers and high net worth individuals that take the lead and follow the line of least resistance.

If you look back to the oil crisis of the 70's it directly preceded the real estate boom, which isn't unlike what is happening now. When oil prices sky rocket, the commodities sector takes off too, like copper, tin, gold and silver. The mining sector always comes to life and many a fortune has been made buying speculative mining stocks for ten cents a share and seeing it go to $10,00 a share in a short amount of time. Nearly anything mining gets a free ride to its highs.

These market leaders follow the same similar path in the economic climate and what happened last time, after the flocking to cash in the 80's because inflation meant interest rates were raised to unprecedented levels of 20% and more, in a bid to try and reduce consumer spending, was a new commodity was added to the economic mix.

Whether the dot com economy will again roar back to life is anybody's guess. However, I would also be looking at the internet and getting some foot hold in the virtual real estate that is so cheap right now.
