Keep Secrets From Your Clients to Be Successful

Posted on 16 Oct 2008

In today's competitive era, we all strive difficult to keep our customers coming back to us and answer all their pesky with all the patience. Putting myself in a client's shoe, I don't think customers asking too many questions are at a mistake because your answers make them trust in you and your company's reputation. The client becomes satisfied that someone professionally responsible is looking after his work.

However, there are some aspects you should never reveal to your customer and keep them as a secret, no matter how many times they ask you or insist you. i've listed below few secrets that every businessman should be keeping from his customers.

First Secret:

Never let a client know your hourly rate. Try to fix the bottom-line rate of the complete project but avoid giving your rate according to per hour.

Second Secret:

I agree that a client has all the right to have all the information about your working on their project but they don't have to know the exact time you take to get the task finished. for example, you can tell your client that the work will be completed in three weeks although you get it done in three days.

Third Secret:

Do not share the tools, equipments and techniques, which help you get the work done quickly and efficiently. If your hard earned experience and efficient tools help you get the task done in short span of time, it isn't important that you let your customer know that the job was done that easily.

I am sure you all will try keeping these secrets but if still your customer isn't satisfied and keeps bugging in, try explaining him following aspects:

  • Tell them that we cannot give you the exact time limit for a project, as there is a certain point in each project when you've to wait for something (e.g., client approval, a proof, a quotation from another vendor, etc.)
  • You never know about the inevitable problems you can face which can affect your work speed.
  • Get them focus on the results and convince them that if you're taking a good amount of money, the results will be outstandingly satisfying. Offer them the extra time you'll put in to satisfy the client.
  • I hope this post proves to be guidance for the entrepreneurs who have been providing all the information to their clients without knowing the fact that this affects their pricing system.
